What is an apprenticeship?

  • You’ll have a full time job for a minimum of 12 months (dependent on qualification)
  • You’ll earn a salary ranging from £10,999 to £22,129
  • You’ll have the same benefits as all council staff
  • You’ll work towards a qualification which you’ll gain at the end
  • On most apprenticeships you’ll work 5 days a week, and some include weekend work
  • You'll spend at least 6 hours of your time in learning and attending training

We offer apprenticeships across all our service areas, from social care to engineering; from ICT to vehicle maintenance; and from plumbing to project management.

  • We aim to have vacancies throughout the year, but most apprenticeships become available during late Spring to early Summer, and then again in Autumn.

It’s hard to believe how many different apprenticeship opportunities there are at the council. There is something for everyone from catering to civil engineering, bricklaying to building surveying and my career has really taken off!

The process is the same for any applicant applying for a job with us. You'll complete an application form or send in a CV and, if shortlisted, you will be invited in for an interview.
