The job itself

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a suitably qualified Senior Social Worker to join the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Hospital Social Work Team, covering both Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. The team adopts a blended approach to their working pattern and aims to be present in one of the offices at least twice per week, to maintain connection and accessibility within the team. There is an expectation that this role will be to cover a 7 day service and that some weekend working will be a consideration for anyone applying for this role. There is a current requirement to participate in a 1 in 3 on call weekend rota – subject to change to meet the needs of the service.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified social worker to take a proactive approach to enhancing their skills in supporting with the management and development of the hospital social work team.

The role of senior social worker will be to work as an autonomous professional, demonstrating expert and effective practice in complex situations. This will include working with people and carers through the assessment process to identify, build and maintain family and social networks, to support and enable people and carers to actively stay well and independent, in line with strengths-based approaches a key in promotion of independence, wellbeing and choice. There is an expectation that you will have creative conversations with the people using services which focus on goal setting and outcomes. You must be a registered social worker with experience of adult social care settings. You must demonstrate sound knowledge of The Care Act 2014 and ability to work within legislative framework of The Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Human Rights Act. Knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults and working within safeguarding procedures is key to this role.

As a senior social worker there will be expectation of a high level of allocation, evaluation of the discharge processes and supervision of staff.

You will be responsible for providing good quality accurate information which will be shared with the system partners to support the flow of discharges from the hospitals.

You will work closely with the team manager and continue to develop a clear vision of what is required to promote excellent teamwork. The current drive for strengths based social work is at the core values of the hospital social work team and as a senior social worker you will be required to promote this within the team.

You must have excellent communication skills, the resilience to work under pressure and be flexible in your approach. You will be required to undertake the formal supervision of qualified and unqualified staff and support both students and those entering the ASYE programme. A practice educator qualification would be desirable but not essential.

This is an exciting time for adult social care which is going through transformational change to inspire the future of the people we work with.
