Job Term: Permanent

Days of work: Four days per week including some evening and weekend work

Place of Work: The Old school House
An opportunity has become available for a permanent Senior Care Officer at the Old School House Residential Home in Beverley. The post is 24 hours per week. Hours of work will be between 7am and 9pm working 3 days out of 7 so will include some weekend work on a rota basis
Applications are invited from caring and dedicated individuals to join the team at The Old School House in providing a home for older adults living with Dementia and complex needs.
Many of the people that we support experience adverse symptoms of dementia and have complex health and social care needs that require a specialist and versatile response to accommodate them. They may have a reduced insight into risk, may lack capacity for some or all decisions, may misinterpret the world around them, have impaired communication and cognition. Through the admission process it will have been demonstrated that these people could not have their needs met elsewhere within the local area. This can be for a variety of reasons but may be due to incidents of verbal and/or physical aggression towards self, others or property, or symptoms of dementia that other care providers have or would be unable to accommodate.
Every action and decision made by those that work is in the best interest of those that live here, you will need to be able to interpret all behaviour as a form of communication and lead a team through some difficult decision making processes to ensure that person centred care is delivered, Rights are protected and that the least restrictive path is followed.
You should have experience of a management role within a residential service and experience of supporting older adults with dementia.
You should have a working knowledge of the fundamental care standards, how these are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and the responsibilities of a care provider in relation to upholding these.
You should have a working knowledge of legislation relevant to the role including Safeguarding vulnerable adults, Mental Capacity Act 2005, The Care Act 2014, Data Protection Act, Human Rights Act and Health and Safety at Work Act.
The role is challenging but extremely rewarding. If you have a desire to improve the quality of life for older people with dementia and are able to commit to maintaining and improving on the outstanding care currently delivered by this service then we would welcome your application.
