The job itself

Are you passionate about supporting children with SEND?

Motivated and enthusiastic practitioners are required to work with early years settings to ensure that children can access childcare and the free early education entitlement in mainstream settings.

The Early Years Inclusion Team is looking for Area SENCos to increase the team’s capacity. We have vacancies for a part-time (18.5 hours per week - Wednesday to Friday, salary £24920 pro rata) permanent Area SENCo and 2 Area SENCos, on fixed term contracts for a 12-month period. Working occasional evenings will also be required for all posts.

The role aims to promote the inclusion of children with SEND within a range of childcare settings. Area SENCos work with identified early years settings within a geographical area and are required to provide advice, training and practical support to owners, managers, SENCos and practitioners. This includes the development and implementation of high-quality Support Plans for children with SEN and/or disabilities, providing practical advice and strategies for staff in pre-school settings and developing/delivering training in response to identified need.

The team needs reflective and solution focused practitioners who think creatively and can work both independently and as part of a team.

Applicants must hold a professional qualification at level 6 or equivalent in early years and childcare or a related field and should have experience of supporting pre-school children with a range of special educational needs.

Our model of practice

Stronger Together: ‘You can, I can, We can’

We have created a bespoke practice model that reflects and connects our vision, our value base and our behaviour as one East Riding of Yorkshire approach to working with children, young people and their families, which is nurtured and grown from within East Riding of Yorkshire CYPSSS and owned by our workforce.

A well embedded model ensures we all have something to centre our practice on so that, while the work may be different, all our teams are grounded in the same values, beliefs, theories and approaches. Having a well-developed practice model helps to create a common language for the service and enables everyone to understand how we go about doing the right things, in the right way and for the right reasons for children and their families.
