The job itself

East Riding Children’s Services is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to help shape and develop our targeted offer to children and families. This is a senior management position with responsibility for the Youth Offending Service and our new “making a change service” which is a multidisciplinary team for young people who are presenting a high level of vulnerability and who are at particular risk of harm from sexual and criminal exploitation.

In March 2019 the East Riding of Yorkshire Youth Offending Service became the first to ever score full marks across the board in an inspection by HM Inspectorate of Probation. Inspectors noted: “Staff build fruitful relationships with children, young people, parents and carers, and partner services. It is evident that children and young people are listened to and their goals and aspirations are taken seriously and acted upon.” In October 2020, the YOS won “Team of the Year” at the national LGC Awards.

The candidate

Do you have a creative and innovative approach to leadership and practice, using analytical and critical thinking skills and inspiring confidence and trust, in order to achieve excellent outcomes for children, young people and families?

You will have extensive knowledge and experience as a manager with the ability to successfully manage performance, change, and budgets. You would be key in developing the delivery of services for young people and their families/carers and be part of a management team leading on ensuring that East Riding’s most vulnerable adolescents are protected from significant harm and enhance their life chances.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Social Work or equivalent, experience of working in a youth justice/criminal justice setting and experience of working with children and families. The post holder will be able to work effectively at both a strategic and operational level and have significant management experience.
