Description

The job itself

This role provides an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the Council’s response to the ecological emergency. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will help develop and deliver biodiversity policies, strategies and initiatives to support the Council’s priority of ‘valuing the environment’.

Acting as a champion for the environment, you will work with internal colleagues, partners and communities to develop a new, long-term approach to conserving and enhancing the East Riding’s unique and spectacular natural environment. This will include implementing key elements of the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan, as well as supporting the Council to meet new requirements under the Environment Act.

The role requires a candidate who is able to forge excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders and deliver an ambitious programme of work to a high quality.

Candidates should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and have an understanding of legislation, policy and best practice relating to biodiversity and the natural environment. They should have experience of project management, policy / strategy development and partnership working. Previous experience of working within a local authority context is beneficial but is not essential.
