Senior Accountant

We have an opportunity for someone to join our Planning & Economic Regeneration and Communities and Environment finance business partnering team. The role will be involved in several areas of work across the service including the preparation of closedown, the production of the Statement of Accounts, budget setting and monitoring, providing support to budget holders and submission of grant returns.
The role provides the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of tasks with duties including:
- Deputising for the Principal or Senior Accountant Grade 12 and representing the Director of Finance at meetings, committees, working groups and partnerships
- Ensuring adequate quality control procedures in all aspects of accountancy, budgetary, technical and systems work
- Developing and maintaining the Council’s financial systems
- Analysing budget monitoring statements to deadlines and undertake necessary investigations into the latest expenditure trends
- Analysing and interpret statistical returns, including the comparison of individual services or the Council with other authorities.
- Prepare grant claims and statistical returns in accordance with requirements by due deadlines
- Producing reports on complex financial matters
