The job itself

Personal Assistant required to support a 56 year old lady in Beverley with 2 shower calls per week and 2 social calls incorporated.

The lady has asthma, diabetes and following a stroke the left side of her body is affected and mobility is a support need. She uses a wheelchair and walking aids. She is looking for an honest and reliable carer to assist with daily life. Duties will include support with showering and a social call twice per week. She enjoys activities such as going for a walk, visiting café’s, swimming, etc.

We are seeking applicants who are friendly, patient and caring with a good sense of humour. We are seeking someone who has similar interests and enjoys going out in the community. The candidate must be able to use their own initiative whilst also ensuring that an environment for maximising independence is maintained. The candidate must be able to be sensitive to the needs of the lady, promoting privacy and dignity. It is crucial that the candidate can encourage and enable full participation in positive and meaningful activities that are enjoyed.

The Direct Payments Support Service is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The service promotes independent choice and inclusion, allowing our service users to employ their own care and support as needed. We support many individuals with varying abilities, assisting with advertising and recruitment for a range of roles including support workers, carers and personal assistants.

Genuine occupancy reason

A genuine occupational requirement for a female worker exists for this post under the Equality Act 2010 due to privacy and decency.
