The job itself

Personal assistant required to support lady in her early 60s diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease.

Duties are as follows:

I hour tea call to support with meals and toileting.

Bedtime calls to be covered to support with getting to bed and toileting

2 hours shopping per week, cleaning, and laundry (support to take lady out shopping)

We are seeking applicants who are friendly, patient and caring with a good sense of humour. Someone who has similar interests and can build up good trusting and caring relationships. The candidate must be able to use their own initiative whilst also ensuring that an environment for maximising independence is maintained wherever possible. The candidate must be able to be sensitive to the needs of the lady, promoting privacy and dignity in all areas.

A genuine occupational requirement for a female worker exists for this post under the Equality Act 2010 due to privacy and decency.

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post – Cost to be met by the local authority.

The Direct Payments Support Service is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The service promotes independent choice and inclusion, allowing our service users to employ their own care and support as needed. We support many individuals with varying abilities, assisting with advertising and recruitment for a range of roles including support workers, carers and personal assistants.
