Description

The job itself

Due to internal promotions a vacancy has arisen for two Senior Pensions Assistants in the Pensions Section, based at the Council Offices, Goole. We are a specialist team responsible for the administration of the East Riding Pension Fund for pensioners and staff who contribute into the Local Government Pension Scheme.

As a Senior Pensions Assistant, you will be required to calculate pension calculations, maintain pension records, administer transfer values to and from other pension providers, deal with enquires from scheme members, employers and other pension providers, by correspondence, email or telephone. The successful candidate will undergo a full training programme.

You will be part of a busy team where deadlines must be met. You should have strong numeracy skills with attention to detail, be able to use your own initiative, have good organisational skills and be able to manage your own workload. Good communication skills are also essential as the section strives to provide a high level of customer service.

The section uses an IT based Local Government Pension Scheme administration system in conjunction with an electronic document management system (EDMS) and electronic workflow monitoring together with Word and Excel packages. Therefore, good IT skills together with a good standard of education are required; as a minimum you should have Maths and English GCSE Grade 5 (C) or above.

The Pensions Section supports blended working and is committed to providing flexibility wherever possible to help employees balance their home ad work commitments. This includes employees being able to combine office working with remote working.

The Council is undertaking a review of pay and reward as part of its ambitions to attract and retain employees by having effective pay and development structures in place.

This will help to support modern ways of working and to support the provision of council services which meet local priorities.

Please note that the future terms and conditions of this post may change following the outcome of this review.
