Description

The job itself

Working from home, with the main office being Market Weighton depot, or one of the main offices dependent or which is most appropriate when required, the Environmental Control team is seeking to appoint to the animal warden/pest control section of the team.  The post is career graded 5 - 6 - 7, however on this occasion we are looking to recruit at Grade 5 only, due to the nature of the existing work available for the post holder at this time.

This is an opportunity to become an animal warden to provide dog control enforcement across the whole of the East Riding, dealing mainly with dog fouling-related offences. You will also help deliver talks to Town and Parish Councils by either personal visits or video link.

We are looking for someone with good communication skills to deal with people directly to provide dog-related enforcement and advice, and to promote responsible dog ownership through our social media channels.  You must have the ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals.

The role includes enforcing Public Spaces Protection Orders for dog control, so knowledge/experience of the requirements of the police and criminal evidence act is desirable.  From time to time, you may have to assist with other duties such as handling stray dogs and pest control work

You will need to be computer literate and capable of keeping accurate records.

You will be expected to take part in the out of hours rota for the collection of stray dogs on Bank Holidays for which an allowance will be paid.  Working outside of normal working hours will be necessary on occasion for which an overtime allowance is paid.

You will also need to be able to drive a fleet vehicle, which you will need to be able to park at your home.  The appointed candidate must live within the East Riding or Hull local authority boundaries.

The job requires a level of physical ability to be able to carry out dog fouling patrols and to handle dogs.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Stuart Allen 01482 396360 or David Howliston 01482 396211.
