The job itself

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, self-motivated with a positive outlook to join our busy Licensing Team as a Licensing Officer. The post holder will directly assist the Licensing Manager and senior licensing officers in undertaking the Teams statutory licensing functions as well as provide support and carry out advice and enforcement activities in relation to the Coronavirus Regulations.  

The post is a balanced role of administrative and inspection/enforcement activities and provides an ideal opportunity to learn about, and become involved in, the day to day delivery of all licensing activity, including taxis, street trading, animal health, licensing act 2003, gambling.

The Team is located in Beverley however the service is moving towards a hybrid/blended way of working with a mixture of workplace and home working arrangements in place. You should therefore have the capacity to work from home as required, particularly on project based tasks or going on site visits. You will be required to provide officer cover across the whole of the East Riding of Yorkshire and therefore a clean driving licence and motor vehicle is required to carry out your duties.  

You should have a good level of education to A level /Btec/NVQ level 3 standard or higher, have experience of working in a local authority or front line or regulatory service. Excellent organisational and IT skills are required as well as having a strong customer focus and the ability to carry out inspections and offer advice to licensed premises. Good knowledge of licensing activities and licensing legislation is required as well as experience of working with or advising businesses or residents.

You will be an effective team worker with good communication and listening skills as well as patience, tact and understanding when dealing with our customers who can be very challenging at times. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative, undertake projects as required and be good with figures to ensure income targets are met.

This post will suit someone who is good at working with others to achieve joint outcomes, wants to make a difference to local communities and is able to deal with confrontational and challenging situations with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
