East Riding of Yorkshire Council are looking for a part time Principal Engineer to assist the existing Principal Engineer to lead, motivate and develop the Council’s Flood & Coastal Risk Management team. The team acts as Lead Local Flood Authority managing the Council’s flood risk assets, along with all the duties this role entails, including statutory consultee duties in order to assess surface water drainage and flood risk on all major planning application.

The team also designs and manages various drainage and flood risk engineering schemes for various internal and external clients throughout the East Riding. Additionally, the team carries out investigations into areas known to flood and prepares business cases for submission to the Environment Agency to obtain grant funding. Should these bids be successful, the team subsequently project manage the delivery of the schemes. It is primarily the leading of the team developing these business cases that this role is aimed at and therefore experience in this field would be an advantage.

You will have a broad civil engineering background covering drainage, flood risk and general civil engineering. Excellent interpersonal skills with a high standard of written and verbal communication are considered fundamental to ensure you can clearly communicate in order to explain complex engineering and construction issues to colleagues, contractors, Council Members and members of the public on a regular basis. Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team delivering similar services is essential.
