East Riding of Yorkshire Council are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead, motivate and develop the Council’s Project Engineering team. The team designs and manages various municipal engineering schemes for internal and external clients, whilst specialising in the project management and delivery of multi-million pound, multi-disciplinary major infrastructure schemes, including major highways and flood risk management, throughout the East Riding.

This team’s current primary responsibility is to project manage the circa £62m A164 and Jocks Lodge Improvements Scheme, which is the Council’s largest capital project and is predominantly funded by the Department for Transport.

You will have a broad civil engineering background covering highways and general civil engineering, whilst a specialism in the project management of major infrastructure schemes would be an advantage for this specific post. Excellent interpersonal skills with a high standard of written and verbal communication are considered fundamental to ensure you can clearly communicate in order to explain complex engineering and construction issues to colleagues, contractors, Council Members and members of the public on a regular basis. Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team delivering similar services is essential.

What can we offer you?

We value all of our staff and enable those with ambition to reach their full potential through a range of training tailored to the individual’s needs. You’ll be able to work on interesting and ambitious projects that have a direct positive impact on the area. We offer a range of family-friendly policies including flexible working and a generous annual leave entitlement. These roles are based in the beautiful market town of Beverley, within the Infrastructure & Facilities service area which manages, maintains and improves the East Riding’s built environment.
