East Riding of Yorkshire Council is seeking a Childcare Solicitor/FILEX candidates for a permanent role to join the existing childcare legal team to meet the increasing demands of the service department. The Applicant would ideally have previous Local Authority experience in Public Childcare Law but Applicants with private law experience in public childcare proceedings would also be welcome. The work involves advising Children's Social Care on legal issues, drafting Court documentation for Childcare, Placement, Wardship Proceedings, Deprivation of Liberty applications and Adoption, obtaining evidence, liaison with clients, Courts, Solicitors, Cafcass and witnesses to address threshold as well as being a confident advocate before the Courts to undertake advocacy at all levels of proceedings where possible. The work will support the Team Manager and meet the needs of the Council in respect of primarily public law childcare proceedings but on occasion to also meet the needs of the Local Authority in its role within private childcare matters. The role does involve travel to outlying service areas and to the varying locations that the Family Court sitting within the Humber region.

The work is exciting, challenging and ultimately rewarding in addressing issues of child protection. The vacancy does require the ability to work additional hours on occasion.
