Description

The job itself

East Riding Registration and Celebratory Services are looking to fill 3 posts in the Goole and Pocklington area:

  • Monday - Friday (2 posts)
  • Saturday (1 post)

These positions offer exciting opportunities for people who love ceremonies to be involved in one of the most important milestones in our couple’s lives. It is a privilege to be involved and help make fantastic memories of such a special day.

As you will be supervising an important legal process, you will need to be calm when working under pressure and clear in your communication. It is an emotional day with lots of distractions, so you will need to use your people skills to ensure that couples and their guests have a wonderful experience at an East Riding Ceremony.

Attention to detail and accuracy are essential key attributes for this post, together with the ability to work flexibly, sometimes at short notice. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential, as you must be able to travel to other registration offices and venues when required.

You will be required to work on an ad hoc basis (2 posts Monday to Friday, 1 post Saturday on a rota) at our lovely marriage venues across the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Regulation 5 of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 1968 (SI 1968/2049) specifies the disqualifications for appointment to a registration office;

Disqualifications include:

  • An un-discharged bankrupt and/or a person to whom a moratorium period under a Debt Relief Order applies, or who is the subject of a debt relief restrictions order or an interim debt relief restrictions order;
  • A person who is or has been during the 12 months preceding the date on which the appointment is to take effect, a member of the council or of a committee of the Council having duties in relation to the appointment of registration officers;
  • An officer or servant, other than the clerk or deputy clerk, of a local authority employed by them in the performance of duties relating to their functions as a burial authority;
  • A person holding office as an authorised person, secretary (for marriages) of a synagogue or registering officer of the Society of Friends;
  • A minister of religion, a medical practitioner, a midwife, an undertaker or other person concerned in a burial or cremation business, a person engaged in any business concerned with life insurance, or a person engaged in any other calling which would conflict with or prevent the proper performance in person of the duties of the office for which he is a candidate

Please note that the Monday to Friday positions attract plain time and travel expenses. A weekend ceremony allowance is paid for the Saturday position.
