Description

The job itself

How would you like to join an ‘Outstanding’ award winning Special School based in Hessle? We recently moved into our new multi-million pound School and Residence on the Boothferry Road and we are looking for outstanding people to join our exceptional team as Learning Support Assistants across all student age groups: age 3 to 19 years. With our state of the art facilities, you couldn’t have picked a better time to consider joining us!

Teamwork is key at St Anne’s. As a school for students with complex medical needs and severe learning difficulties, our Learning Support Assistants provide a vital role in providing a safe and productive learning environment as well as helping students access the range of learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. No two days are the same, and you’ll be asked to work as part of a close- knit team alongside the Class Teacher and other professionals either in 1:1 activities or small groups. Whilst mechanical aids are used where practicably possible, there is an element of manual handling involved in the role as is the requirement to assist with personal care, for example: feeding, changing nappies and pads and toileting.

A warm, caring and patient personality is essential to work at St Anne’s and you must be able to:

  • Show superb communication skills with children, young people, their carers and other agencies
  • Be proactive and show initiative
  • Plan and prioritise under pressure
  • Be a trustworthy role model in and around our school community
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality whilst adhering to safeguarding principles at all times
  • Demonstrate you really care about children, particularly those who find learning and managing their behaviour difficult.

You should have experience of working with children and young people with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour in an educational setting. An NVQ/Diploma Level 3 qualification (or equivalent higher level study) in Specialist Support for Teaching & Learning in Schools/Class Assistance or related subject is required. You should also be computer literate have a good standard of education including passes at GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) and be willing to work towards professional qualifications to further your development and career.

In return we offer you the chance to join an award-winning school and work with inspiring children and families and carers.

If this sounds like the role for you, you must complete an application form. You must provide at least the last 10 years of employment or education history and explain any gaps and you must have a legal right to work in the UK. Appointments will be subject to satisfactory disclosure checks at enhanced level by the Disclosure and Barring Service as well as other background checks including professional references.

Please note that the school is currently consulting on changing the working hours for its Learning Support staff. The outcome could be no change or an increase to a maximum of 35 hours per week term time only. The outcome will be known by the end of June and any changes implemented from 1st September 2023.

Online applications close on 4 June. Applications will be received at the school up until 9am on 5 June.
