The job itself

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our street cleansing team for a Sweeper/Driver I to work at Market Weighton Depot.

The successful candidate will undertake, either individually or as part of a team, the removal of all litter and detritus from streets, open spaces and other associated land to a high standard. You will work in accordance with pre-determined work schedules and standards determined by the Council.

You will form part of a team of street cleansing operatives, or work alone, to ensure ERYC’s towns, streets and open spaces are cleaned to a high standard. Utilising a range of plant, tools and equipment, e.g. Street cleansing vehicles, brush, barrow, blower and pedestrian controlled mechanical sweeper.

You will maintain and take responsibility for your equipment, which includes daily checks and cleaning your equipment, when appropriate. Participate in the Council’s initiatives to improve the street scene environment, e.g. report environmental defects.

A full driving licence is essential with the entitlement to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles (driving licence class C1).

The ability to work on your own initiative, along with having good communication and good customer care skills, are also essential for this post.

The role is based at the Market Weighton depot, so good local knowledge would be useful. And the working hours are 37 per week plus 2 hours contractual overtime.
