Please see below criteria which is used throughout the assessment process. This has been set out to explain what is measured at each stage of the application process. To progress to the interview stage, applications must clearly demonstrate how they meet all of the essential criteria.

General building maintenance knowledge

 

Awareness of health and safety procedures including COSHH etc.(Training will be provided)

   

Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks such as long periods of walking/standing and undertaking a high degree of manual handling, working at height and moving heavy objects e.g. benches, deliveries, cleaning supplies/equipment.

   

Ability to be flexible; due to weather conditions as well as service demand, successful applicant may be required to work on evenings, Saturdays or Bank/Public Holidays for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid

   

Ability to create, develop and maintain good working relationships within a team with the willingness to support others in their roles

   

Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, providing a high level of customer service

   

Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations in a compassionate and understanding way

   

Demonstrates honest and ethical behaviour

   

Has excellent organistional skills including good timekeeping

   

Has a positive attitude towards attending training to advance their skills

   

Is open to proposed changes to working methods including the application of new technologies to improve the service.

   
Ability to use own initiative and solve rudimentary problems with the understanding to request assistance for more complex issues    

Reasonable proficiency in basic IT systems

   

Has experience working within a Crematorium or Cemetery environment

 

Holds relevant qualifications e.g. COSHH

 

Is fully aware and understands the importance of General Data Protection Regulations.

Job outline

Overall purpose

Working within Environmental Services Group to providing a Caretaking service at the Council’s Crematorium.

Principal accountabilities 

  1. General security of site and building – checking doors/windows are secure, locking and unlocking of building/site gates.

  2. Arming/disarming of intruder alarms.

  3. Attending/re-setting fire alarms.

  4. Porterage duties – moving furniture, support with deliveries.

  5. Gathering of waste from bins on site/in building for collection.

  6. General outside tasks – leaf clearance, litter picking, footpaths and snow clearance.

  7. Cleaning duties including on-site toilet/shower facilities, kitchens and crematory.
  8. Maintains infection control systems including clinical waste.

  9. Liaise with contractors on site.

  10. Monitor and attend car park at busy periods.
  11. Maintain all appropriate Health and Safety records e.g. fire log/emergency lighting and site testing.

  12. Identify faults/repairs on building/site and report to Crematorium management.

  13. Standby/call out provision.

  14. The post requires impartiality when receiving or carrying out requests for specific requests from members of the public.

  15. In your role you are required to speak English with sufficient fluency to effectively perform your duties, as required by Section 77-84 of the Immigration Act 2016.
