Job outline
Overall purpose
To play an essential role within Environmental Services providing technical and administrative support to the Crematorium. Responsible for assisting with the delivery of efficient and effective services that meet the demands of the public, the Council and various environmental and legal controls.
Principal accountabilities

Carry out effective administration of funerals, cremations and record keeping issues relating to the Crematorium service. This includes the administration of all statutory cremation documents, ensuring they are received on time and processed correctly for the Medical Referee’s attention.

Receive, answer and deal with face to face enquiries, telephone calls, emails and correspondence from members of the public, stakeholders, partners and other staff members in order to provide accurate information and excellent customer care.

Create, develop and maintain an effective working relationship with members of the public, stakeholders, partners and other staff members.

Efficiently and effectively use information technology relative to the service to maintain accurate records, generate work orders, provide reports, issue invoices and respond to requests.

Responsible for raising orders, paying of invoices, processing budget recharges for works undertaken at the Crematorium.

Responsible for the procurement of memorial products from our nominated contractors and for arranging for all goods supplied to be recharged to our customers.

Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of actions, plans, policies and procedures required to achieve service priorities and targets, maintaining high levels of service provision.

Ensure the facility is kept clean and tidy throughout the day.
- To assist with the security of the site e.g. locking and unlocking of Crematorium gates and on-site facilities.

Carry out service hall attendant duties including but not limited to; ensuring the service hall is clean, tidy and appropriately laid out before each funeral, ensuring audio-visual tributes are correct for each funeral, assisting Funeral Directors, Officiants and mourners whilst they are using the facility.

Responsible for the safe transfer of the coffin from service hall to crematory via portable catafalque/transfer trolley/bier.
- Operate the cremators and ancillary equipment in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements as well as manufacturers guidelines (full training will be given if relevant qualification is not held).

To carry out ashes interments/scattering within the grounds in accordance with instructions given by the crematorium management team and the applicant for cremation.

Maintain an awareness of, and comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, guidance, council policies, procedures, requirements at all times.

To work as advised to all national cemetery and crematorium specific standards and to adhere to all relevant regulations and codes of practice in respect of crematorium activities.

The post requires impartiality when receiving or carrying out requests for specific requests from members of the public.
