Job outline
Overall purpose
Working within Environmental Services Group to deliver Crematorium grounds services. Responsible for maintaining the appearance of Crematorium grounds and facilitating ashes interments/scatterings.
Principal accountabilities

Responsible for carrying out grounds maintenance at Crematorium. This includes grass maintenance (e.g. mowing and strimming), leaf clearance, litter picking, weed control and removal, hedge cutting, planting and minor tree works.

Work alongside landscaping contractors with the view to continue and develop future landscaping plans in conjunction with the crematorium management.

To operate and maintain vehicles and equipment in accordance with training and guidance provided.

Responsible for day-to-day up-keep of crematorium site facilities (i.e. maintenance shed, toilets etc.): keeping the crematorium grounds/public facilities clean and tidy.

Responsible for monitoring and maintenance of animal boxes and shelters i.e. bat and bird boxes, hedgehog houses, sometimes working in conjunction with ecologists, animal welfare etc.

Communicate and liaise with members of the public, stakeholders, partners and other staff members, in a positive way providing high levels of customer care and service.

To assist with security of the site e.g. the locking and unlocking of Crematorium gates and on-site facilities.
- Liaise with members of the public, stakeholders, partners and staff members to provide assistance whenever required to ensure all funerals proceed as intended.

Maintain an awareness of, and comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, guidance, council policies/procedures/requirements at all times. This includes ensuring risk assessments are carried out and reviewed annually for all operational activities with support from Crematorium management.

To work as advised to all national cemetery and crematorium specific standards and adhere to all relevant regulations and codes of practice in respect of burial and grounds maintenance activities.
- To carry out ashes interments/scattering within the grounds in accordance with instructions given by the crematorium officers/management team.

Ensure correct installation and maintenance of memorials within the site grounds.

The post requires impartiality when receiving or carrying out requests for specific requests from members of the public.
