East Riding of Yorkshire Council at Pride in Hull
Your East Riding… Where Everyone Matters
At East Riding of Yorkshire Council we value diversity.
We want to ensure that we attract, retain and develop the very best people to build a diverse and talented workforce. Every member of staff has an equal opportunity to make the most of their career with us and we understand and celebrate differences in our workforce. When you join us, we want you to feel valued at work – we will value your ideas and the different perspectives you bring to the table.
We value diversity and are dedicated to treating all of our employees and prospective employees fairly and with respect. We do not discriminate and ensure that everyone is given an equal opportunity, in accordance with the law and as an individual, irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
Putting equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of everything we do, we have a range of staff networks developed by staff communities including the Disabled Staff Network, LGBT+ Employee Network, Veteran Network, Carers Network and Neurodiversity Working Group.
We recognise that inequality, disadvantage and discrimination exist in society and we we are committed to treating all residents, service users and staff fairly and ensuring equality of opportunity for all. View the council's Equality Plan.

Proud to support Pride in Hull in July 2022 🏳️🌈 To continue supporting our LGBT+ staff, allies and our local community, we became a corporate sponsor.
Our colleagues from recruitment, fostering, public health and our LGBT+ employee network took part in the parade as it made its way through the streets of Hull.
We also supported the inaugural Bridlington, Goole and Wolds Pride events, which took place across the summer of 2022.
We appreciate that many of our employees have duties outside of their working hours, and that some provide unpaid care for a family member or friend. We understand how difficult it can be to combine caring for someone with full-time or part-time employment. Here is some support we have put in place to help our employees who are carers:
Along with our staff network where the group contribute to consultations, help inform policy change in the workplace, help individuals feel less alone and give a stronger voice to address barriers and discrimination, staff can benefit from:
We have been granted the silver award as part of the Employer Recognition Scheme for the Armed Forces Covenant.
If you are serving, or have served in HM Armed Forces, the Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation to make sure you and your family, as part of the Armed Forces community, are treated fairly when you access services, and do not suffer a detriment compared to other citizens. Special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for those who have given most, such as the injured and the bereaved.
